Course Title: Agility I: Backyard Agility
Prerequisites: None
Purpose: To get started in Agility and have a wonderful (and fun!) bonding experience with your dog while stimulating her both mentally and physically.
What you can expect to learn from this Course:
- Learning theory
- Positive reinforcement training
- Teach your dog : the jump, broad jump, wing jump, tire, tunnel, weave poles, A-frame, dog walk, teeter, and pause table
- Appropriate equipment to use when training
- Step-by-step instruction as to how/what to do when training agility
Course Info: This class is designed purely for the enjoyment of handler and dog, while still teaching pratical agility skills. During the course of this class, using positive reinforcement training techniques, your dog will be introduced to the jump, broad jump, wing jump, tire, tunnel, weave poles, A-frame, dog walk, teeter, and pause table. You will also be given helpful hints to create an agility course in your own backyard.

Instructor: Sarah Story

Sarah (shortstory02@hotmail.com) has been working with dogs her entire life. She grew up in a "bird dog" home. Sarah ran her first (North American Shoot To Retrieve Association (NSTRA) field trial at the age of eight and has not stopped since. She plans on fulfilling her requirements to become a NSTRA judge in 2006. In addition to field work, Sarah has experience in Agility, Obedience, and Confirmation. She and her dog "Checkers" are registered with Therapy Dog, Inc. as a working Therapy Dog team along with the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen (CGC). Currently, Sarah is an Associate Trainer for Canine Companions by Certifed Trainers where she is a head instructor for group classes, accepts private behavior modifciation cases in addition to boarding and training. She has been training with Canine Companions for three years and loves working with all breeds of dogs.
Student Information
We do not recommend taking a course if you have access to the internet
ONLY through a dial-up modem. The speed is just too slow and you will
not have a good experience. HOWEVER, you can go to the local library
or public areas with free wireless “areas” such as hotel lobbies
or coffee houses and take your course. You will need to bring your
cell phone. Though the call is toll-free to teleconference, depending
on your wireless cell phone service plan, you may be charged for the
minutes.
Check out the availability to have wireless through Direct TV or Satellite
installed at your home. The costs are getting more reasonable every
day.

Necessary Downloads Prior to taking a course:
- You will need to allow ActiveX to be installed on your computer (you will be prompted before logging in to a class if you need it).
- You will also need a media player for audio and video. Download the free Microsoft Media Player or Quicktime Player .
- MAC Users: Click here to get to Webex. On the page that comes up, in the left panel, choose "Training Manager" under "Set Up." Then, click on "verify your rich media players." Check that you have the latest uploads of Flash and Windows Media Player to be able to view and hear videos for this course.
