Course Title:
Vet Clinic Puppy Manners and Socialization Certification


Pre-requisites: Vet Tech; or have a desire to help the public with their puppies at a veterinary clinic; some common knowledge about dog safety, health, and nutrition

Purpose/Goal: To prepare and certify vet techs (or others) to hold classes in veterinary clinics to socialize; begin training; and educate their clients how to have their puppies grow to be good community members.

Course Info: This train the trainer course will teach you step by step instruction to help you hold classes within a veterinary clinic near you. It focuses on training Vet Techs (or others) to assist vet clinic clients in early puppy education, dealing with safety, health and nutrition, puppy manner imprinting, socialization, and general puppy care. Learn to become a Certified Veterinary Clinic Puppy Imprinting and Socialization trainer!

You will learn to hold a class and teach clients at veterinary clinics the following skills or knowledge:

  • Socialization with other dogs and people
  • Basic understanding of early puppy behavior
  • Consistancy
  • Body Language
  • Why a puppy bites and how to stop it
  • Why a puppy jumps and how to control it
  • Imprinting of early manners
  • Watch me
  • Sit; Come and Down
  • Walk with me
  • Stand
  • Wait
  • Basic tricks to keep the puppies happy
  • Shake, catch, roll over, over/under, crawl, go through a tunnel

Vet Visits talks:

  • Nail triming
  • Grooming

    Instructor: Jan Bradfeldt, has been associated with dog training since 1971 and has instructed  for  Emerald Dog Obed. Club (EDOC) since 1972. Her college studies are in behavior modification, psychology and animal science. Jan graduated from Oregon State Univ. in 1976. She is currently teaching puppy imprinting classes for 3 local veterinarians and also a public Canine Good Citizen Prep Class. Jan also teaches a weekly Show Conformation class for EDOC.  Jan has done training with the Delta Society for therapy dogs and is currently a Canine Good Citizen evaluator for the AKC.  Her first German Shorthaired Pointer was given to her 48 years ago. Jan and her husband still train and compete in many dog activities including, Obedience, Rally, Agility, Show Conformation, AKC hunt tests, CGC and Animal Assisted Therapy work. Jan spent 20 years in the corporate world as a Hazardous Materials Regulatory Shipping Specialist before leaving it to work with dogs and their owners full time.

    Jan currently has several top winning German Shorthaired Pointers as well as an English Cocker Spaniel.

    We do not recommend taking a course if you have access to the internet ONLY through a dial-up modem. The speed is just too slow and you will not have a good experience. HOWEVER, you can go to the local library or public areas with free wireless “areas” such as hotel lobbies or coffee houses and take your course. You will need to bring your cell phone. Though the call is toll-free to teleconference, depending on your wireless cell phone service plan, you may be charged for the minutes.
    Check out the availability to have wireless through Direct TV or Satellite installed at your home. The costs are getting more reasonable every day.
