PT202: Training the Human in the Canine Human Dyad

This course will enable students to be able to effectively coach and communicate lessons to their human clients to assist them in being successful in training and living happily with their pets. Instruction will be provided for both group classes and private behavioral consultations. Emphasis will be on designing a plan of action based on behavioral evaluations and follow-through with the private consultation client, and on designing effective classroom logistics and protocols to enhance learning, while keeping methods positive with motivational activities and games to keep the human client fresh for the group classes. Students that successfully complete this course will be able to effectively coach and communicate lessons to students to assist them in being successful in training and living happily with their pets. Prerequisites: Passion for developing the human-canine partnership.

Course Info: This course is for people who wish to improve their teaching abilities and motivate their students.  This is a critical area of the dog training classroom. The human needs to be successful and motivated to effectively teach their dog the lesson at hand. Students in this class will learn through a series of videos, notes and weekly homework assignments.

Instructor: Connie Dwyer, MS, CPDT, CABC is owner and training director at Eternal Sun Stable in upstate NY.  She has over 10 years experience in dog, horse and people training!  She is a Connie Dwyercertified dog trainer through the CCPDT and also a certified animal behavior consultant through the IAABC.   Connie offers group and private lessons and behavior consultations as well as teaches clinics and speaks at seminars.  Her focus is on teamwork and building a solid behavioral foundation in companion animals and their humans to nurture a lasting positive bond.  She is the author the My Clever Puppy Packet and author and creator of the Equine Excellence Award ™ Program.

Audited-You will participate fully in
the class with no required homework or tests.
The instructor will not provide any assistance
out of class such as viewing your videos in
order to be able to give you individualized
feedback.

NOTE: We will be providing Certification for Professional Dog Trainers in the near future (planned for FALL of 2008). This course is worth 3 credits and can be applied to Certifcation once we are approved by the Colorado Department of Higher Education. Only the "For Credit" courses can be applied to Certification.
