Purpose: To understand the relationship between how the canine body is composed, how it works and the impact massage therapy will have on these systems.

Course Info: Detailed training in canine anatomy and physiology; canine biomechanics and kinesiology; understanding the relationship between anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology and massage therapy in dogs. The course involves the use of three textbooks used by the Veterinary Nursing Program in the U.K. and 18 hours of classroom instruction. The course is designed to give the students the necessary information in order to understand the relationship between how the body is composed, how it works and the impact massage therapy will have on these systems. Knowledge level upon successful completion on the course will be equivalent to that of a Veterinary Nurse/Technician.
What you can expect in this Course:
- Eighteen hours of online instruction over six weeks in anatomy and physiology of canines.
- A unique opportunity to come back to each lesson with questions, concerns and insights after completing your homework assignments.
- Homework assignments that ensure you master the material. Students should prepare to complete 6 hours of homework each week.
- Students must successfully complete the canine anatomy and physiology course before enrolling in the introductory canine massage course.
- Small student to instructor ratio so students enjoy significant amounts of individual instruction.
- A knowledge assessment at the end of each course ensures that students have successfully completed the course requirements and have a level of training that ensures they will be safe when working on canines.

Advanced Standing: If you feel you have the knowledge to successfully "test out" of this course and go right to the Intro to Canine Massage, please email us. There is NO testing out of either the Intro or Advanced Canine Massage courses.
First, you will need to be signed up for Intro to Canine Massage . The test will be taken at your home and you will have one hour to complete it (done through email). The cost to administer the test is: $72. This fee is non-refundable. If you pass, you will enter the Intro to Canine Massage course. If you fail, you will have one more chance (a new test, no additional fee) to pass and then, if you fail again, we will advise you to take the Anatomy and Physiology course. You will not advance to Intro until you successfully pass the exam. The $72 fee will NOT count toward tuition costs.
Instructor: Sigle (Sheila) Skeries has an Honours Bachelor of Arts in educational psychology with 20 years teaching experience and over 30 years experience in the animal industry. A successful junior career on the hunter / jumper circuit in Ontario and throughout the USA followed by upper level Eventing training in
England, qualification as a British Horse Society Intermediate Instructor, and the management of equine facilities in breeding, racing, training and showing ensures a well rounded and knowledgeable approach not only to rehabilitation but the specific needs and demands of a wide variety of disciplines. Sigle’s canine partners are St. John Ambulance Therapy Dogs and they participate in a number of canine activities including tracking, agility, freestyle and trick training. Her qualifications in therapeutic massage have been secured through training at The Complementary Therapies School in Gerrards Cross, England and successful completion of the ITEC licensing examinations. She is a member of the British Complementary Medicine Association, Independent Professional Therapists International and the Guild of Complementary Practitioners. Sigle has successfully completed her training in Herbal Medicine through the East West School of Herbal Medicine based in Ben Lamond, California.
