CC104: Basic Dog Training: Training Your Dog the Positive Way

Teach your dog basic obedience by developing and strengthening a trusting relationship between you and your dog using positive reinforcement.

Course Information: This class is designed for any dog over the age of six months who has never taken a training class before or needs a refresher on basic manners. The owner will learn how to precisely signal his dog's correct response with a small hand-held "clicker" and reward the behavior so that it will more likely happen again. Obedience exercises such as sit, stand, down, and stay are introduced, as are loose-leash walking, polite greetings, "leave-it", attention and the really reliable recall - skills crucial to the pet dog living in our society. The owner will gain a better understanding of what dogs need and can be expected to achieve dogs in the household.

Prerequisites: None

Course Length: 6 one-hour sessions

Course Cost (Register above):
For Credit: Live and OnDemand=$225
Audited: Live=$150; OnDemand=$120

What you can expect to learn from this Course:

  • Understand how dogs learn and how to use equipment
  • Learn to use a clicker and positive reinforcement
  • Learn the skills needed to continue training your dog throughout its development
  • Learn to teach your dog to sit, down, stand, attention, loose lead walk, leave it, recall, stay, and end unwanted behaviors such as jumping and barking.

NOTE: There is an additional $130.00 cost for a Positive Techniques Training Kit that is highly recommended for this course. The proper tools are essential for the proper results. This cost is way below what you would pay retail. If you have previously taken a course in the Positive Reinforcement Series, you will NOT need to buy the whole Kit again. You will, however, need to order the DOGS I Instruction Manual ($20). The Kit includes the following training tools to be shipped to you after you register:

  • 2-clickers
  • 1-training lead
  • 1-harness
  • 1-limited slip collar
  • 1-stuffable food toy
  • 1-DOGS I Instruction Manual.

Cost includes sales tax, shipping and handling. You will recieve instructions on how to order this under "Course Materials" when you register. You will be expected to have the materials by the second session. If you are taking the Recorded Sessions, order now, click HERE to order and specify the class you are taking, and where you want the materials sent.
