CANINE COMPANION CERTIFIED TRAINER (CCCT) REQUIREMENTS
- Successfully complete the CCCT Core courses offered through E-Training For Dogs, which includes being present for at least 75% of the classes, completing all homework assignments and obtaining a minimum mark of 75% on the examinations.
- Successfully complete the CCCT Elective courses offered through E-Training For Dogs, which includes being present for at least 75% of the classes, completing all homework assignments and obtaining a minimum mark of 75% on the examinations.
- CCCT Practicum. To earn the CCT, a student must perform a 250 hour internship as a dog trainer, in their chosen area(s) of interest. This internship will be supervised by e-Training for Dogs, Inc. and a designated Field Supervisor. This 250 hour practicum must take place within twenty-four (24) months after successfully completing the CCCT Core courses.
THE CORE AND ELECTIVE COURSE EXAMS
Exams for each of the core and elective courses will consist of 30 multiple choice questions, 4 short answer questions worth 5 points each and two essay questions worth 25 points each. The exam will be compiled from all the course materials including demonstrations and homework assignments.
Only those individuals who have successfully completed the certification criteria will receive the designation of Canine Companion Certified Trainer (CCCT).
The CCCT comprehensive program includes:
- From 48-52 hours of online instruction in the use of Positive Training Techniques for canines. This provides a unique opportunity to come back to each lesson with questions, concerns and insights after completing your homework assignments.
- Homework assignments that ensure you master the material. Students should prepare to complete 2 hours of homework for each hour spent in class.
- Students must successfully complete the CCCT Core courses before enrolling in the CCCT Elective courses.
- Small student to instructor ratio so students enjoy significant amounts of individual instruction.
- A knowledge assessment at the end of each course ensures that students have successfully completed the course requirements and have a level of training that ensures they will be safe when working with their own dogs and others' dogs.
- Certification requirements of 250 Practicum hours
- A final exam at the end of the CCCT to ensure that students offering their services to the public are knowledgeable, well trained and that services are provided in a professional and safe manner.

Required Courses:
CCT 101: Puppy Training (Instructor: Susan Sharpe, 6 sessions)
This course will give you a basic understanding of Learning Theory; what is "positive reinforcement" and how to apply it to puppies; the social development of puppies; and step-by-step instruction for basic puppy training (sit, down, stand, short stays, leave it, come when called, loose leash walking). You will also learn the positive reinforcement techniques of addressing the most common puppy issues such as house-training, nipping, jumping, crate-training and chewing.
CCT 102: How Dogs Learn (Instructor: Susan Sharpe, 4 sessions)
Learn how to approach training and discipline through an in-depth understanding of how dogs learn. This course will teach you how to use operant conditioning and positive methods to shape a dog’s behavior.
CCT 103: Positive Reinforcement Training (Instructor: Susan Sharpe, 4 sessions)
Learn to take advantage of the natural tendency of the dog to repeat an action that has a positive consequence and not to repeat one that has a negative consequence. Learn how to precisely signal a dog's correct response with a small hand-held "clicker" and reward the behavior so that it will more likely happen again.
CCT 104: Basic Obedience: Dogs (Instructor: Susan Sharpe, 6 sessions)
Using positive reinforcement techniques and the clicker, you will learn to train obedience exercises to the adult dog, such as sit, stand, down, stay, loose-leash walking, polite greetings, "leave-it", attention and the really reliable recall - skills crucial to the pet dog living in our society.
Electives (Must complete four (4) courses choosing from the following):
CCT- 201E: Imprinting Puppies 0-8 weeks (Instructor: Sue Ann Wilson, 6 sessions) Gain a basic understanding of canine reproduction and learn a proven system of environmental, physical and handling techniques to use in the pup’s first 8 weeks that will enhance a canine’s lifelong ability to learn, be trained, and be a superior companion or competitor.
CCT 202E: Vet Clinic Puppy Socialization and Basic Care (Instructor: Jan Bradfeldt, 8 sessions) Learn step by step instruction to help you develop courses, approach a veterinary clinic, recruit puppy owners, and hold classes within a veterinary clinic near you. This course focuses on training Vet Techs (or others) to assist vet clinic clients in early puppy education, dealing with safety, health and nutrition, puppy manner imprinting, socialization, and general puppy care all held in the vet clinic. The result is a better behaved patient in future visits to the vet.
CCT 203E: How to END Problem Behaviors (Instructor: Susan Sharpe, 8 sessions) Learn how to end problem behaviors through positive reinforcement and discover the bond positive reinforcement will bring to your dog. This course will address the most common problem behaviors and how to stop them.
CCT 204E: Rally Obedience (Instructor: Sarah Story, 8 sessions)
Rally-O is recognized by both the APDT and the AKC and is a wonderful introduction to the sport of obedience for dogs and owners. There are three levels of competition and the emphasis is on teamwork between the handler and the dog. Rally Obedience provides a link between the CGC and competition Obedience, Agility or other dog sports for both the handler and the dog.
CCT 205E: Canine Good Citizen (Instructor: Susan Sharpe, 6 sessions)
Learn responsible dog ownership and how to prepare your dog to pass the 10 step CGC. The CGC certifies dogs that have the training and behavior needed to become welcomed and respected members of their households and communities.
CCT 206E: Training the Human in the Canine-Human Dyad (Instructor: TBE, 6 sessions) Learn how to effectively relate and communicate with your human client. This course will teach you how to listen, communicate, observe, and provide effective feedback when teaching someone how to train or relate to and with their own dog.
CCT 207E: Introduction to Agility (Instructor: Sarah Story, 8 sessions)
This class will introduce you to the sport of dog agility. Agility is designed purely for the enjoyment of handler and dog, the strengthening of the bond between a human and canine, while still teaching practical agility skills. During the course of this class, using positive reinforcement training techniques, you will learn to introduce dogs to the jump, broad jump, wing jump, tire, tunnel, weave poles, A-frame, dog walk, teeter, and pause table. You will also be given helpful hints to creating a backyard agility course.
CCT 208E: Introduction to Dancing with Dogs/Canine Freestyle (Instructor: Sarah Story, 8 sessions) Take obedience and the bond between human and canine to another level! This class uses positive training techniques to teach you to train your dog a series of well orchestrated behaviors that can be put to music and turned into a dance. In this class you will learn the side-pass, crawl, spin, turn, bow, back and more fun dance moves. You will also learn how to back-chain these behaviors so the dog learns the dance faster! You will also learn the various dancing with dog/canine freestyle organizations and how to enter in a competition if you so chose!
CCT 209E: Therapy Dog (Instructor: Susan Sharpe, 8 sessions) This course is for people who are interested in developing a working team for visitation and/or the assisted activities of a human and their Therapy Dog. This course will provide you with the skills necessary to train dogs to become a Therapy Dog and pass a Therapy Dog Certification Course.
