Advanced Placement Guidelines
There are two types of examinations offered – the General Examinations and the Subject Examinations. 

General Examinations
The General Examinations consists of six separate examinations:

  1. Core Courses/Associate Dog Trainer General Examination
  2. Dog Health General Examination
  3. Breeding and Genetics General Examination
  4. Dog Behavior General Examination
  5. Dogs and Society General Examination
  6. Professional Trainer General Examination 

Credit granted on the basis of the General Examinations will be treated as general elective transfer credit without a grade or equivalent course, and will count toward graduation. The Core Courses/Associate Dog Trainer General Examination can only be used to count toward a Certification when it is part of the Professional Dog Trainer (PDT) or Professional Canine Training Specialist (PCTS) programs. You must be signed up for either or both to take the Core Courses/ADT General Examination.
No more than two General Examinations can be used to earn your PDT.
General examinations will be taken at the student’s home while online in a classroom. They will be scheduled with us and will be timed tests. No study guides will be provided.

Cost: 25% of the Basic Area testing out of. (i.e., If you are taking the General Examination for Dog Health (DH), DH has a 9 credit requirement. Credits cost $75 each. At 9 credits, the cost for taking the DH courses would be: $675. The General Examination cost is 25% of that amount, or $168.75. The General Examination cost is non-refundable.

Scores: The student must pass the exam with at least an 80% passing grade. The exam can be taken once only and is a Pass/Fail; however, partial accreditation may be given on a case-by-case basis.

Subject Examinations
The Subject Examinations measure achievement in specific courses and are used to grant exemption from and credit for these courses.

ADT: No more than two 100 level courses can be used to grant advanced placement for the Pet Dog Trainer Certification. No study guides will be provided.

PDT: At least 45 credits 200 level courses must be earned at E-Training for Dogs to earn the ACSB Certification. No study guides will be provided.

Cost: 25% of the course testing out of. Non-refundable.

Scores: The student must pass the exam with at least an 80% passing grade. Pass/fail. Exams can only be taken once.
