INTRODUCTION TO SERVICE DOGS AND TASK TRAINING

Purpose: To help you determine if you need/qualify for a Service Dog and based on that need(s); to learn what tasks you require a Service Dog to perform for you. Taking this course will result in you completing a task blueprint based on your needs.

Course Information: In this course, you will learn what the legal definition of a Service Dog is and the minimum standards required for a dog to be legally accepted as a Service Dog. This is a “working” course. It is not one to “sit and watch.” You will complete three worksheets that will include a blueprint of the tasks you wish a Service Dog could be trained to do.

Prerequisites: None

***NOTE This course is a PREREQUISITE (required before you are allowed) to register for any of the Service Dog Task Training Modules.

  • Legal definition-minimum training standards
  • Minimum Standards Checklist (12 items)
  • Develop your own individualized task blueprint
  • Submit your worksheets and task blueprint to your Instructor
  • Based on your worksheets and task blueprint, your Instructor will provide individualized feedback and recommendations on the Task Modules most appropriate for you.

Course Length: One session. The time it takes to complete is dependent on the student (must be complete in a maximum of 30 days). You will have unlimited access to this course for 30 days.
