GROOMING AND STYLING FOR PROFESSIONAL PET DOG GROOMERS

Purpose: This course builds on the fundamentals of pet grooming course. Students will learn clipping, scissoring and handstripping techniques including speed grooming techniques to be able to groom all breeds in pet trims to work in a commercial salon or as a self employed fully trained groomer.

Course Information: Possible career opportunities on completion of this course include being a Dog groomer employed/self employed. This certificate can be taken as a stand alone unit or as part of our PROFESSIONAL PET GROOMERS DIPLOMA course.

Prerequisites: Fundamentals of Dog Grooming Course

What students can expect to learn from this course:

  • Different types of equipment, its use and maintance
  • Different breeds and the standard pet styles for each breed, adapted pet trims to suit owners’ requirements.
  • Speed grooming and styling for pet trims.
  • How to use clippers and choose the correct blades.
  • How to clip, scissor and handstrip different breeds into different styles.
  • Downloadable step-by-step handouts of styling each of the different breeds which students can make a dog grooming manual out of.
  • Students will receive a set of style charts.
  • Certification available through the IACC.

Resources and Equipment Needed:

Internet access.
Digital camcorder to video homework.
Access to wide variety of friends and families dogs for practicing grooming skills.
If possible, a placement at a grooming salon to watch/voluntary work.
Grooming kit to practice on dogs or access to this equipment… maybe in a salon!
